Worldwide top ten SIs declined by 1.9% MoM in April

According to WitsView’s global LCD monitor SI shipment survey in April 2010, top ten SI shipments declined by 1.9% MoM to 13.56 million units, mainly due to weaker-than-expected sales performance by downstream customers, pressure from end-market inventory, as well as the high LCD monitor panel prices in 1Q10, which continued to elevate brand customers’ set costs. However, since panel prices began to fall in April, brand customers have incurred losses from the price decline, therefore, they will tend to focus on selling their inventory in April and May, while they wait for panel prices to bottom out before they re-enter the market. Under this strategy, SI shipments were deterred.

As for dynamics of individual SIs in April 2010, shipments of the smaller-scale SIs, namely, Tatung, Compal, and Jean, rose by 4.4, 4.5% and 49.3% respectively, as shortage of upstream components and some delivery issues were gradually resolved. On the contrary, shipments of TPV, Innolux, and LGE reduced by 4.2%, 14.9% and 16.7% respectively due to the decline in demand.
