Top 10 monitor brand shipments reduced by 2.6% MoM in April

According to WitsView’s top 10 monitor brand survey, total monitor shipments reduced by 2.6% MoM to 11.22 million units in April 2010. First, panel prices began to fall in March, hence, before prices bottom out, the “wait-and-see” sentiment resulted in stagnant end-market demand. Major markets across the globe are reflecting the slow down in demand, particularly in Europe, triggered by the debt crisis, the depreciation of the Euro led to increase in procurement costs for retailers, making conditions unfavorable for end-market sales, and its inventory level is gradually rising. Therefore, the European market is most heavily impacted by weakening demand. Demand from the IT market is expected to recover gradually after June.

In terms of brand vendors’ respective performances, Samsung’s shipments grew by 19% MoM as its total number of shipping days in April is calculated based on five weeks. This is followed by AOC with 18.3% MoM increase; after its inventory clearing in the China market in 1Q10, AOC began restocking in 2Q10. On the contrary, LGE, Acer, and BenQ, which focus more on the consumer market, were affected by weaker demand, their shipments fell by 15.8%, 12%, and 16.2% respectively. Dell, HP, and Lenovo, which focus more on the commercial market, were also impacted by the gradual increase in inventory, their shipments decreased by 1.1%, 7.7% and 19.5% respectively.
