Top 10 monitor brand shipments decreased by 4.2% MoM in July

In July 2010, LCD monitor shipment from global top ten brand vendors decreased by 4.2% MoM to 10.70 million units based on the latest survey by WitsView. The shipments from most brand vendors continued to decline. As WitsView previously expected on inventory closeout at peak season, in 2H10, demand remained weak in IT market, coupled by the continued panel price decline and the rising inventory, it was not easy for brand vendors to fight for their annual shipment target, or might even affect their profit. Since panels accounted for 70~80% of the total cost of LCD monitors, the fluctuation of panel prices determined sales strategies in sets. Therefore, brand vendors will rely on LCD monitor panel price to decide their product pull-in level. WitsView takes a conservative attitude and estimates that growth in shipment volume from the top ten brand vendors will be less than 5% MoM in August.

Of individual vendors, after Samsung cleared away set inventory in 2Q10, it began to increase the production and shipment volume. Although demand remained weak, Samsung still aggressively prepared for 2H10, topping the market share with a 21.1% growth MoM. Lately, Dell launched price promotion to get orders in the commercial market in North America, leading to the better performance compared with other brands, couple by Dell’s quarter-end in fiscal year in July,  shipment increased by 8.6% MoM. On the contrary, other vendors were influenced by the weak demand, recording a decrease MoM.
