Top 10 monitor brand vendors’ shipments jumped by 10.4% MoM in January

According to WitsView’s top ten monitor brand shipment survey, the aggregated shipments jumped by 10.4% MoM to 12.09 million units in Jan11; in line with WitsView’s previous projections. As January marked the new business year for many brand vendors, they tried to make a good start by aggressively launching new models to the market and devising new pricing strategies to lure retailers to pull-in more inventory. Meanwhile, in light of the fewer working days in Feb11, retailers were also more willing to replenish their respective inventory. For 1Q11, WitsView predicts the quarterly shipment growth to be within -3% or may even stay flat, thanks to the launch of new models, fresh start to the year, brand vendors’ aggressive sales promotion and retailers’ inventory pull-in.

In terms of the respective brand vendor performance in Jan11, the end of the year-end inventory accounting pressure and launch of new models resulted in Samsung and LGE’s shipments to respectively jump by 36.6% and 30.5% over Dec10. Meanwhile, the strong shipments in the China market helped push AOC’s monthly shipments to leap by 25%. By contrast, amid the aggressive shipments made in Dec10 and the fact that Dec10 marked the 3Q quarterly end for Lenovo, the resulting higher base period rendered its shipments to slump by 25% MoM. Finally, having successfully won the bidding of China’s government backed project, HP began shipping its monitor products in Dec10. As most of the shipments were concentrated in Dec10, it also created a higher base period, thereby leading to its shipments to fall by 11.7% MoM.
