Top 10 monitor brand vendors’ shipments fell by 19.9% MoM in February

A survey by WitsView on the shipment of the world’s top ten LCD-monitor brands showed that the top ten brands shipped a total of 9.68 million monitors in Feb11, a 19.9% MoM drop. In addition to the fact that some of the monitors for February were distributed early in January due to the Chinese New Year holiday, the main reason for the higher MoM drop was the two major U.S.-based brands had spurred their sales in January at the end of the accounting quarter and the end of the accounting year. Forecasting shipment in the second quarter, WitsView expects that there will be a growth due to the alleviation of material supply problem and the brands build up inventory as coming of the traditional hot season creates another wave of demand. The industry will see a positive QoQ growth within a 5% in shipment. However, the recent earthquake in Japan has impacted not only the nation’s economy but also that of the Asian region. It certainly does not help the industry already facing murky global demand and will add to the uncertainty to shipment in the second quarter.

In terms of individual brands in 2011 February, because January is the last month of Dell’s accounting year, the company pushed for shipment in the month to reach its annual target. Due to accounting factor, which increased the base, MoM shipment dropped 34.7%. Anticipating the raw material and labor shortage in February, other brands had already stockpiled early so their February shipment also dropped. Philips MoM shipment was down 42.5%, the biggest drop in the top ten, with AOC at number three, which recorded a MoM decline of 23.7%.
