Top 10 monitor SIs’ shipments surged by 39.5% MoM in March

According to WitsView’s global monitor SI shipment survey for Mar11, the aggregated shipments from the top 10 SIs reached 14.34 million units, surging by 39.5% MoM, and it mainly attributed to the following: (1) Lesser workdays in February resulted with a lower shipment base period; (2) Factories restored to normal production after the long Chinese New Year holiday; and (3) Issues with raw material supply have been gradually alleviated, therefore having large growth rates. As we look into the shipping situation for Q2, WitsView predicts a low-demand market in the traditional off season. However, as part of the orders in the commercial market is gradually released in Q2, the quarter shipment is expected to show slight growth.

In terms of the performance of the respective SIs, among Compal’s customer demographics, 75% are Japanese clients. Because of the earthquake in Japan, demands have decreased and MoM shipment dropped 18.2%, making it the only SI with declining shipment in March. The other SIs showed shipment growth as the production gradually restored back to normal in March. Among them, Tatung had a 73.9% growth in MoM shipment as material supply issues were gradually solved; BOEVT grew 60% in MoM shipment as it had a low base period in February.
