Top 10 monitor SIs’ shipments dropped by 7% MoM in May

 

       According to the survey of SI shipments of global LCD monitors by WitsView, in May 2011, the shipments of the top ten SIs were affected by 1) A flat demand from the terminal consumer markets, ) May was in the beginning of the financial quarter for the U.S. manufacturers, their strengths to pull-in inventory slowed down, 3) A brand manufacturer strategically lowered its on-hand inventory beginning in May, at the same time it reduced pulling goods, its MoM continuously declined 7% to 12.3 million units. As to the outlook of shipments in the second quarter, although the orders from the commercial markets were stable, the consumer markets, other than the low season factor, were influenced by the debt crisis in Europe and the increasing pressures of inflation, its demand became even weaker.WitsView expects the second quarter shipments to decline 1 to 3 %.

      As to the dynamics of individual manufacturers in May 2011, BOEVT experienced poor material conditions in April, shipments for some orders were deferred to May, plus the customers covering inventory, thus, the May shipment level recovered, its MoM grew substantially at 37.5%. Compal’s shipments grew by 35.3% MoM, thanks to its customers launched many new models in May. Samsung stopped outsourcing monitors beginning in May and production became completely in-house. Therefore, its MoM SI shipments grew 10.6%. On the contrary, Tatung, due to its largest customer, HP, reduced its strengths to pull-in inventory in the beginning of the quarter, its MoM shipments declined 24.4%. Wistron and Qisda were also affected by their largest customer Dell in the beginning of the quarter, and their MoM shipments declined 11% and 10.7% respectively.
