Top 10 monitor brand vendors’ shipments dropped by 6% MoM in May

According to the shipment survey of the world’s top ten LCD monitor brands, in May 2011, the total shipments of the top ten brand vendors totaled 10.52 million units; MoM declined 6% as compared to April. The overall shipments were below expectations primarily caused by a slump in the global demand, plus the Chinese market remained weak, so there is slow inventory replenishment for the distribution, and May being the beginning of an accounting quarter for the US manufacturers, the momentum in pulling goods was relatively low, thus MoM continued to decline. As to the outlook for the Q3 shipments, although the IT market in the second half remains uncertain, however, 1) To achieve a full-year target, the brand vendors need to begin their dash in Q3. 2) The U.S. presidential election in the next year is expected to release programs which will revitalize the economy in the beginning of Q3; 3) lower shipment base in Q2; Based on the above three points, WitsView expects a Q3 shipment growth of 8-12%.

As to the dynamics of individual vendors in May 2011,although the demand remained stagnant in the European market, re-stabilized by orders from the Asia-Pacific regions, BenQ’s MoM grew 15.8%. Lenovo, blessed by the orders from the Chinese commercial market, MoM shipment grew 4%. On the contrary, under the slowing demand in the Chinese consumer market, AOC’s MoM shipment declined 22.7%. Due to May being the beginning of an accounting quarter, Dell’s shipment momentum slowed down; further, because of a higher shipment base in April, its MoM shipment declined 22.4%.
